With the launch of Riya, face-recognition software left the confines of Homeland Security and entered the realm of mainstream utility. Soon, dating services will use the technology to allow its users the ability to search by “types”. Actually less exacting, “fuzzy” matches will allow you to find your Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie (or even an actual Brangelina).
Of course, this wreaks of favoritism for the beauty elite, but I think it will also allow for the recognition of beautiful features in us all. Maybe that somewhat overweight guy you’d never look twice at on the street would suddenly hold vast appeal once he’s been identified as “Fat Brad”.
Follow Up: A C-Net story from March 13 shows that Riya always had this possibility in mind.
